It’s the First Trailer for Wes Anderson’s Second Animated Film ‘Isle of Dogs’ (VIDEO)

I must admit that Wes Anderson's 2009 animated feature, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, was the last film of his I enjoyed. I think it's been all downhill since then, particularly as his stable of actors has grown unwieldy and his interest in giving them anything of substance to do has waned. Strangely, though, I'm looking forward to his next film, the animated Isle of Dogs, because animation seems to be the one arena where he can give the actors more to do by recording them separately, thereby putting all of his focus on his twee mise en scène.

Unlike his previous animated effort, this one is based on an original story by Anderson himself, and actually expands his stable of usual suspects (Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton) to include some notable newbies (Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Courtney B. Vance, Liev Schreiber). It's an interesting take on the boy and his dog story as filtered through Anderson's typical style which is best described as just mainstream enough for him to avoid becoming the next Todd Solondz.

I will say, as someone who has seen Woody Allen's Love and Death more times than I'd care to admit, I did love hearing Prokofiev in the trailer. Isle of Dogs hits theaters on March 23, 2018, likely in limited release as Ready Player One, Tomb Raider, and Pacific Rim: Uprising are all going wide within a week of this one.
